People Determine if a Business Thrives or Not

Customers are people. Employees are people. Managers and executives are people. Suppliers are people. Investors are people. Competitors are people. Regulators are people. Together, but without coordination, those people and more determine if a business thrives or not.

Perhaps even more important, businesses are social groups. As Peter Drucker put it so eloquently in Management, 1974, "Businesses are social groups that differ from other social groups in one way. Businesses must have customers". That is a powerful fundamental concept, but it is commonly ignored.

For example, most business managers and executives believe they determine if their businesses thrive or not. But they do not. For example, most rely on the classical functional hierarchy to organize their people without realizing the limitations that imposes on business success. Small, empowered, self-managed teams, tribes, and workgroups could be used in any business to win customers from any competitor who relies primarily on a hierarchal business organization.

The psychologists and sociologists understand the alternatives to hierarchical forms of organization, alternatives that would naturally deliver far more customer satisfaction and loyalty. We help companies deploy these more customer-friendly organizations, using their hierarchies as incubators in which teams, tribes, and workgroups can flourish and deliver new customers and new businesses.

Understand What Motivates People, Then Motivate Them

Everything on this site, from our most basic beliefs to our most complex programs, is designed and delivered to help businesses win by influencing the behaviors of the people who determine business performance—everyone above, and more.

We help clients select and apply the most appropriate elements of the vast body of knowledge created by the researchers in psychology, sociology, and business.

We help business managers and executives to learn about all of these different kinds of people; to unite small groups of them across functional and cultural boundaries to create and execute innovations that build successful new products, new customers, and new businesses; and to win by doing all of that better than their best competitor.

Our Core Beliefs

Cognitive consistency impels people to balance their actions with their beliefs. People naturally infer the belief systems of others by observing their actions. It's done quickly, continuously, and subconsciously. For example, "You deserve a raise." has a different meaning if it comes from a co-worker or from your boss.

The more you know about a person's core beliefs, the more meaning you get from their words. Also, beliefs change slowly, so you can predict their future actions more accurately if you know their core beliefs better.

Reading Our Core Beliefs section will help you get more value from the other sections on this site, and it will help you to imagine with reasonable accuracy how we would deliver a business development program, a workshop, or a facilitation. More>>

Programs

Business Development Programs are the centerpiece of this section. In the opinions of our clients, programs are the most highly valued of our services. Our Business Development Program is a logical framework that can be easily tailored to the business development needs of a single client.

Our Business Development Programs help clients create new businesses. That has been vital in large companies to offset the inevitable decline of their mature businesses. It has also helped startups and growth companies to create new customers and to help those customers to define their businesses.

Customer Relationship Development and Sales Channel Development are parts of our Business Development Program. We have delivered them separately to help clients who do not need a completely new business but want to attract more customers. More>>

Workshops and Services

Both of these sections are parts of our Business Development Program.

The Workshops are comprised of a combination of training and practice. The training instills elements of skills and processes, and the practice develops the ability to use the skills and processes in their real work. More>>

Our Services are even smaller parts. They have helped clients to unite people around important initiatives in two ways. For example, we can conduct a workplace mediation to resolve an existing conflict that stands as a obstacle to business growth. We can also train people to conduct mediations on their own.

Voicing different views becomes normal if there is a trusted way to create richer, more multi-dimensional views. It's the key to collaboration. Let Creativity replace Compliance. More>>
